THE CLINIC IN KABANGA

The challenge

1 doctor

per

20 000 people

According to the official statistics, there is only one doctor per 20,000 people in the Ngara/Rulenge district. How urgent improving the access to basic health care is, show the statistcs as well: The most frequent cause of death in the district, in which Rulenge and Kabanga are located, is still Malaria or other infections. â€‹

Because most people cannot afford treatment and transport expenses at regular medical facilities, many hesitate going to a doctor. This leads to detoriation of the patients' health status and increasing treatment costs. Consequently, the treatment for the low income class is becoming even more difficult at a later stage.

Tackle the rural-urban migration of young and highly educated people

Highly educated people in medical professions are motivated to stay and work in rural regions in the long term.

How do we achieve this?

Construction of an outpatient clinic

With the help of all supporters, Kivuko e.V. was able to finance the construction of an outpatient clinic which consists of a department for medical treatment, a laboratory, a pharmacy and accommodation for employees.

Pregnant women and children under 5 years

are particularly at risk for severe disease courses of diseases and are also the most affected by poverty. Thus, they are treated free of charge.

Non-Profi Approach â€‹

The clinic does not aim to distribute profits to third parties or to the management. As a result, the costs for treatment and medicines are less, so that even people from the lower income group can afford them. People with no financial means are not turned away, but are treated free of charge.

Awareness and Knowledge â€‹

Education and disease prevention as part of treatment takes up a significant part of the staff's work. As soon as the pandemic situation permits, seminars on health topics are planned at the clinic.

Professional testing in the laboratory

Testing in the laboratory allows reliable results. These are important for malaria and other infections, which are a particular problem in the region.

7 secure jobs

were created in the clinic: A clinician, two employees in the pharmacy, a laboratory assistant, a security guard, an accountant and a manager. They stay in the region and additionally enable school attendance for family members with their income.

And how does this look like?

The outpatient clinic of Kivuko e.V. is existing since 3 years, during which patients with a wide variety of diseases could be treated. In some cases they had to be taken to the next bigger clinic for inpatient treatment. In most cases, however, illnesses such as malaria, worms and infections were successfully treated at the clinic. In many cases, the treatment saved lives. We thank our supporters on the German side as well as the clinic staff and the Tanzanian team of Kivuko who made all this possible!
